Song Request Book Tag

Quite some time ago now Brittany @ Perfectly Tolerable tagged me in the Song Request Book Tag. Sorry it has taken me so long to get to replying, but things got busy. And since this tag required not only thinking of answers but also listening to songs (none of which I knew before) it meant I needed longer to work on the tag than usual.

Anyway, better late than never, right?

Brittany’s Songs:

“The Fighter” by Keith Urban feat. Carrie Underwood

The continued repeat of the lyrics “what if I fall” made me think of a book I haven’t even read yet: Sometimes I Lie by Alice Feeney. Because, really, look at that cover. I’ve seen a lot of that cover lately, and it’s a whole lot of falling.

“Most Girls” by Hailee Steinfeld

While I like the song itself, I wish I had just listened to it instead of watching the video on YouTube. The video part made me uncomfortable for some reason. I can only guess at why; I watch rom-coms, so I wouldn’t have expected my reaction. Maybe it was the audio-visual blend. Anyway, a book about girls that makes me uncomfortable (and also involves stripper heels like those in the music video) is Last Girl Dancing by Holly Lisle. I love that book, but it is not a comfortable one by any means.

“Hey Brother” by Avicii

I recently finished Middlegame by Seanan McGuire, a book about brothers and sisters that really stuck with me, so the lyrics on this one made me think of that. The bit about the “endless road,” too (but no spoilers), and it’s an added bonus that the song itself has a bit of a melancholy-yet-strong feel to it.

I’m not going to officially tag anyone, so I’m not picking songs of my own. However, if this tag interests you and you decide to play along please link back and let me know so that I can see what you thought of Brittany’s songs!

Thanks, Brittany! This was fun!

  1. oooh sounds like a fun and quick tag. I always struggle with which books to feature. I tend to go to tried and true favorites so tags can take me forever!! ❤️ I do love you chose one book for the cover!! I think that’s really neat and would make a great tag… what cover does this prompt make you think of?! Hahaha. I’ve not read Middlegame but its one I want to read for sure.

  2. Thanks for taking the time to do this one!!! And I use the phrase “better late than never” way more often than I would like to admit 😂😂

I’m so sorry that the video of Most Girls made you uncomfortable 😦 I’m glad you still liked the song tho 😀

I haven’t read any of those books but based on your explanations I can totally see why you picked them all 🙂

    1. You’re welcome! I think all of my tags should come with a “better late than never” disclaimer. 😉

It’s interesting how sometimes the music videos make us feel uncomfortable but the song itself doesn’t. I guess it shows how much of music is left up to the listener’s take on the song.
