Happy Friday! What are you reading today? Today I’m highlighting Beautiful by Fran Laniado. (And if you want to follow her blog, you can find it here. I actually found out about her book because I enjoyed reading her blog.)
“First Line Fridays” is hosted over at Hoarding Books and is all about the first line of current read. A good companion meme is the Friday 56, hosted by Freda’s Voice where you turn to page 56 in what you’re reading a find a sentence that jumps out at you.
First line (okay, okay, this is really the first paragraph):
Once upon a time. Always a good way to begin a story. But my story does not start that way because it was not “once upon a time.” That was the problem. In my case, it was all the time.
Page 56 (approximately):
Now I knew what to say. “I came here because you fascinated me. I cam because I had never seen anyone so beautiful and so ugly all at once.”
Beautiful is called “a tale of beauties and beasts,” so I’m enjoying seeing where the fairy tale retelling parts are, and which parts are more faerie. The book’s available for Kindle (that’s where I’m reading it) so if you’re interested you should check it out!
