19 for ’19

I’m not going to do a traditional New Year’s Resolution thing this year, and I’ve still got four months left of the 101 in 1001 challenge. However, I like having goals for the year, and so I’m going to do a list of 19 goals to complete in 2019.

  1. Learn Tunisian Crochet and make at least one project using that technique (aka not just a sampler swatch)
  2. Learn brioche knitting and make at least one project using that technique
  3. Knit a Fair Isle Cardigan (complete with steeks)
  4. Complete 19 craft projects †
  5. Read 75 books
  6. Read 19 2019 releases *
  7. Read 19 Nebula Award winning entries *
  8. Read 19 Hugo Award winning entries *
  9. Read 19 Newbery Award winning books *
  10. Host my first Read-A-Long (not just set it up and start it, but also maintain it monthly and have an end-of-year wrap up)
  11. Finish writing a novel (any novel, any length… just complete something)
  12. Grow and maintain my savings account all year as described in my 101 in 1001 challenge
  13. Try 3 (or more) new recipes per month all year (not just until the end of the 101 in 1001 challenge this April)
  14. Do Meatless Mondays as often as possible
  15. Try 19 new restaurants
  16. Donate blood at least twice during the year (but quarterly is better, if possible)
  17. Find and participate in a local volunteer opportunity (again, ideally quarterly)
  18. Plan more activities with friends
  19. Host or attend more board game sessions (we did one or two last year. So anything more than that counts.)

† Any craft… I’m not picky. Though, if I make a set of something — like a jewelry set that includes a necklace, bracelet, and earrings; or a set of holiday cards — that counts as one project. Also, I’m not counting the individual Geek-a-long blanket squares. I’ll need to complete the blanket for it to count.

* For these items, category and length don’t matter. It can be a novel, novella, short story, etc. Also, all the awards can have been awarded at any time, it’s not limited to a specific year.

  1. Wow, 75 is huge! Good luck with that 🙂

I like the idea of 3 or more new recipes every month, maybe I’ll steal it. I used to stick to ‘what’s working’, but always collect so many interesting ones.. to never actually try them out! This should change 🙂

    1. Thanks! I did 84 this year, so I’m hoping that 75 will be both a challenge and reachable.

I love my 3 or more new recipes per month goal. I have found some new favorites that way (but I’ve also found some flops).

  2. I fully confess that I have fewer New Year’s resolutions, but the first one of mine is the finally stop being scared of knitting and try getting back into it! I love crochet, but knitting just keeps on making no sense to me and then I leave projects half-done in a fit of cowardice!

Wishing you all the luck for learning cool new crafts and promising to finish projects *coughs* *looks nervously over at the pile giving me the Evil Eye from the corner…*

    1. Thank you! I’m really hoping to finish my current UFOs this year, but we’ll see how much progress I make on them. I do tend to get distracted by shiny new projects.

      (*UFO = UnFinished Objects)

    1. I’ve learned that learning things “someday” means I never end up learning them. So I’m trying to make time to learn the things I’m interested in *now*. (It’s kinda working, but takes continual effort.)
