101 in 1001 ~ update the twenty-ninth

It’s time for the 29th update on my 101 in 1001 Challenge! If you haven’t been following along on this journey so far or have any questions about what the challenge is, you can check out this link for details.

November is for NaNo! So that’s where my focus was supposed to be this month. The plan didn’t go as intended, though, and I ended up spending most of my energy on other things and not writing. Some writing happened — to be honest, it was still LOTS MORE writing than has happened in prior months. I managed to get other things done also, so it wasn’t a wasted month in any sense.

Here’s this month’s challenge progress:

November 2018
3 items completed this month
10 items currently in progress
1 item cancelled

64% complete

Reading #83: Read 1 book in each of six genres ~ 10/22/2018

I actually finished this one last month, but I wasn’t sure that I was going to count it until the beginning of this month. That’s because the book I used for my “western” book is only partially part of the western genre. It’s also part of the fantasy genre (and probably fits fantasy better than western). However, it’s one of the books I had in mind when I created this challenge, so I decided to count it.

Writing #101: Participate in NaNoWriMo in 2018 ~ 11/1/2018 – 11/30/2018

NaNo is always fun. Whether or not I win, whether or not I finish the book, it’s always fun. And since this challenge item — like the NaNo tasks for prior years — was to “participate,” that helped me keep NaNo fun instead of making it stressful. (There’s plenty of time for writing to be stressful if I ever get a book contract and have to make deadlines. Until then, I’m going to keep having fun with it.)

Fitness #30: Walk from Hobbiton to Rivendell ~ 11/2/2018

I can’t claim to have come up with this idea, but when I saw it linked on someone else’s website (you can find it here) I knew that I had to do this. I’ve been working on this challenge off and on for a while, but finally put in a big push and started to focus on it. Part of my thought process for this was I had to be intentionally walking, not just counting all the random steps I took at work and grocery shopping. It was fun, though, and I might decide to do it again sometime! If I do, though, I’ll be sure that I don’t start it until I’m ready to focus on it.

Reading #85: Read 5 of my neglected magazines cover-to-cover ~ NOT DOING

I’d read 2 of the 5 magazines I had planned on for this goal, but it was like pulling teeth. I’ve realized that I don’t like reading ENTIRE magazines. Selected articles from magazines, sure. But not the whole thing straight through. So I’m not going to finish this challenge item, and will go back to just reading the articles that interest me.

I hope you had a great November and are ready for the end of the year! I don’t know where the time has gone, but overall this has been a good year for me.

    1. Thanks, it felt productive even if I didn’t come anywhere close to winning at NaNo!

If I do the Hobbiton to Rivendell walk again (or something similar) I want to make a point of doing it in a smaller period of time. But it was a fun concept anyway.
