It’s time for the 26th update on my 101 in 1001 Challenge! If you haven’t been following along on this journey so far or have any questions about what the challenge is, you can check out this link for details.
Can you believe we’re almost done with summer? I’m not complaining too much because I’m looking forward to autumn, but really where did the time go?
Here’s this month’s challenge progress:
3 items completed this month

Food #34: Enter all my recipes into my digital recipe manager (Paprika) ~ 8/18/2018
This one took a while because I got bored while typing in recipes. I think I’ve been working on this one (off & on) for the entire time I’ve been officially doing this challenge. However, I’m finally done with it, and now I have quick access to all my recipe cards! I didn’t add the recipes from my recipe books yet. (That wasn’t ever part of the plan.) Those I will add as I cook them.
One interesting note about this: I’m surprised how many of these recipes I haven’t ever made. A lot of them are from co-workers at pot-lucks, for example, or were recipes I clipped from product boxes or soup cans.
Arts & Crafts #11: Spin Purple Majesty yarn for Boyfriend Sweater ~ 8/19/2018
I actually finished spinning the yarn a while ago, but I finally took the time to check how much yarn I have left against what I still need it for on the sweater, and I think I’ve got enough at this point. If it turns out I was wrong, I’ll spin more at that point, but in the meantime I’m considering this one finished.
Personal #54: Go a full month without buying anything frivolous (x5) ~ 8/31/2018
For this one, I don’t count gift buying as frivolous, as long as I don’t go overboard. But the part which tends to cause me the most trouble is that it’s really hard to go into a bookstore to buy a gift and not come out with three or four random books for myself. Now, if I have a plan for those books I don’t consider them frivolous, but as often as not they were 100% impulse buys, and those are frivolous. When you already have a huge physical TBR pile, buying more books isn’t the best financial idea. Alas. (There are also plenty of other random impulse buys that got in my way of this challenge, but books were the biggest culprit.)

Not too bad, especially given how much progress I’ve been making on some of the other items. One of them (knitting the sweater that the hand-spun yarn is for) is getting pretty close to completion now, and I’m confident that it will be done and wearable by this fall. Another challenge item (digitize my APS film) is still moving along, though its timing is partly dependent on the company that is doing the work for me. It is also one of the tasks that costs me money to complete, so it’s not getting done as quickly as I was hoping.
Still, good progress this month, and I feel like I’m getting somewhere with this again instead of stalling out like I had felt the past few months. Hope you had a great August!
