BookWyrm’s Alphabeticals ~ A

A little while ago I saw Alex at The Paperback Piano do a post on Alphabeticals, and I decided it looked it looked like so much fun that I want to play along! It’s been little a while since that post which inspired me, though, because I’ve been caught up in other book blog series and had to find a space to schedule this one.

Here are the rules as Alex posted them:

  • Credit Alex for the idea, and link back
  • Post at your own pace, do as many or as few letters as you want
  • Post your favourite authors, books and characters (ABCs) for a particular letter of the alphabet

For the record, I am going to try to keep my ABC favorites to two per category. There will be times when I can’t come up with even two (I’m looking ahead to the XYZ portion of the alphabet, here) and other times when I can’t bring myself to keep to that limit. However, when I can, it will be two per category. I’m going to try to use the author’s last name when I can, and I won’t be including “A” or “The” when I choose book titles.

And since this is my first of these posts, I’ll (obviously) be starting today with A.

Alphabeticals

Authors beginning with ‘A’

Kelley Armstrong is one of my favorite authors. She has been for ages, ever since I discovered her books and her OWG (Online Writing Group) around the same point in time. She’s also one of the few authors I’ve met in person, and she’s as nice as I could hope from an author I’m a fan of.

Shana Abé is another author whose work I’ve enjoyed. I’ve only read her Drákon series, but I did really enjoy them.

Books beginning with ‘A’

And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie has to top this list. It is such a good murder mystery, and a well-written book in general.

All The Weyrs of Pern by Anne McCaffrey is another favorite of mine. It’s essentially where I choose end the Pern series, and to me it makes a great finale to a favorite spec-fic series.

(I find it amusing that both of my ‘A’ books have authors whose first name also begins with ‘A’. That was not intentional, but I’m happy it worked out that way.)

Characters beginning with ‘A’

Aslan is a favorite character of mine. He’s one of my favorite fictional portrayals of God. When I was much younger and Having Differences With Our Church, I decided for a while that I would pray to Aslan instead of God. That didn’t last, and neither did my affiliation with that particular church, but I have still always felt a connection to Aslan.

Aragorn from The Lord of the Rings is another favorite. I will admit to liking movie-Aragorn better than book-Aragorn (because Viggo, duh) but still.

Do you have any ‘A’ favorites? If you decide to play along with Alex’s tag, let me know! (Though of course be sure to link to Alex’s blog, too. I just want to see what ABC favorites my blog friends have.)

  1. Oh man, I didn’t read your intro close enough and thought you were going to do the whole shebang in one post. I was mentally girding up my loins and prepping my scrolling finger when bam, it was all over with.

    I was relieved 😀

That should also give you a lot of good postable material for the future then.

  2. Now I have Kimya Dawson’s song “Alphabutt” stuck in my head. D’oh!
Um, characters – probably Acheron. My mind is blank beyond that. 😀

      1. Acheron is free thru the 18th if you join the Tor.com ebook club – which just mostly means you get free ebooks occasionally – no cost. Heck, I got MurderBot #1 free thru it!
