Top Ten Tuesday ~ 2017 Plans Gone Wrong

It’s time for another Top Ten Tuesday! This will be the last week TTT is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, but starting next week it will be hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. New year, new host? Anyway, the ladies at TB&TB have been doing the TTT for years now (even if I only just found them a few months ago) so I don’t blame them for wanting to pass the reins along to someone else. Wishing everyone the best! And now on to this week’s topic…

toptentuesdayTen Books We Meant To Read In 2017 But Didn’t Get To (and totallyyyy plan to get to in 2018!!)

  1. Alexander Hamilton by Ron Chernow ~ this one is an exception to my 2018 Reading Challenge. (aka: It’s not on my 2018 Reading List but I’m going to read it anyway and not consider it cheating.)
  2. The Diabolic by S.J. Kincaid ~ another exception to my 2018 Reading Challenge, as long as I start it soon.
  3. Ready Player One by Ernest Cline ~ I haven’t decided yet if I’m going to read the paper book or listen to the audio book on this one.
  4. 1984 by George Orwell ~ this has been on my TBR list for soooo long. I keep meaning to read it.
  5. To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee ~ this is another long-term TBR book. I think it’s been on my “read this year” list for about 5 years. Haven’t gotten there yet…
  6. The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank ~ I may have read this when I was in school. I don’t remember for sure, but given the current political climate I wanted to re-read this one again in 2017. Didn’t get there, so it’s on the 2018 list for sure.
  7. The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood ~ I haven’t decided if I want to read this first or watch the Hulu series first. I think that’s why it got added to my “Top TBR” list in 2017 and yet hasn’t been read yet.
  8. Doomsday Book by Connie Willis ~ yet another long-term TBR book. I’m really trying to get some of those FINALLY READ in 2018.

Umm…. and that’s it. There are other books that are on my TBR list, naturally (my Goodreads “want-to-read” shelf has over 350 books on it) but these are the only ones that I meant to get to in 2017 and didn’t.

How about you? Any books that you’ve put off reading and intend to get to this year?

  1. Oh my goodness, you HAVE to read TKAM. It’s my favorite book of all time! Anne Frank’s diary is also good. I actually tried to read READY PLAYER ONE this year, but I didn’t get more than 1/3 of the way through. Reading it was like watching someone else play a video game. Boring! I hope you like it better than I did.

    Happy TTT!

    1. TKAM is on mu must-read list for this year! I don’t know if I’ll like it yet, but I *will* read it. 🙂 I think I read Anne Frank’s diary when I was in school, but I have no real memories of it, so I’m treating it like a new read.

Ah, see, I am one of those weird people who enjoys watching other people play video games, so I’m hoping I like Ready Player One.

  2. You can read The Handmaid’s Tale, watch the series, and watch the first movie! 🙂
You should add Blackout and All Clear to your TBR (Connie Willis – more time traveling). 🙂

    1. I still haven’t figured out if I want to read or watch The Handmaid’s Tale first…

Blackout and All Clear are on my mental TBR, but haven’t made it to Goodreads yet. 🙂

  3. TKAM has been on my “get-to-this-someday” list for a looong time. Maybe this year I’ll actually read it. And I should read Ready Player One before the movie comes out.

BTW, can I just say, one knitting bookwyrm to another, that I love your blog name?

    1. TKAM has been on my “read someday” list for ages too, ever since I realized that everyone else was reading it in school but we (as the honors class) weren’t. (I guess we got more obscure texts instead?)

I love your blog name, too! Had to visit when I saw your blog on the TTT linkup. 🙂

  4. I loved ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ but haven’t watched the show yet. I watched a movie though, but it was really old I believe. And they changed the ending if I remember correctly^^

The show is on my list though 🙂

Do read ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’ – it’s a great read, told from the point of view of a kid. I loved little Scout’s voice 🙂

  5. I love Ready Player One! Definitely read that it’s so much fun. I haven’t read Doomsday Book but I’ve read another of hers and absolutely loved it. I keep reminding myself to go back and read more of her backlist.

    1. I’m looking forward to Ready Player One! It was a Christmas gift, so I own the book now and have no more excuses.

I have also read Bellwether by Connie Willis, and enjoyed that one a lot. It’s worth a look if you haven’t read it.

  6. I need to read Ready Player One as well. I read The Handmaid’s Tale so I could watch the Hulu series, but I haven’t had the chance to watch it yet!

    1. The Hulu series is what brought The Handmaid’s Tale to my attention. I don’t usually look for Atwood’s work; sometimes I find it gets a bit more… odd than I’m expecting. Hopefully I’ll like this one, though!

  7. I listened to Ready Player One a couple years ago. I think I remember kind of losing the plot line in the last ~20%. Reading might have been a better choice. Good book, though.

    1. I was planning to listen to it because Wil Wheaton reads it, but I think he might distract from the story. (Some celebrity readers do that.) It’s a moot point now, though, because I was gifted the hard copy for Christmas, so I’ll be reading it for myself.
