Yay! A much more respectable number of words today. It’s within the realm of possibility that I will be completely on track (aka ahead of the “required” word count by a few hundred) by the end of the day tomorrow. I could probably get caught up to the total goal tonight, but sleep is calling…

Snippet:

“We looked in your room for you, but you’d already left,” Erick said without preamble. “We need to fit you out for the quest – and as we want to be on the road, today, there’s no time like the present.”

“And how was I to know you wanted me?” she asked, annoyance and leftover adrenaline making her bold. “We didn’t arrange for anything specific yesterday. Your Highness,” she added. He might not be her prince, but he was her prince.

“Peace, lass,” Sheldon cut in. “His Highness is merely excited, and wants to be on the road yesterday. He means nothing by his high spirits.”

“Oh very well,” she said, setting her spoon down and taking a last sip of the wine. “I was just about done anyway. We might as well get this show on the road.”

The four of them left the room, and though Sheila tried not to care, she couldn’t help but notice that the group was the center of attention: every eye in the room watched them leave. Even the servants paused in their duties to watch.

If there hadn’t been rumors about her before, there certainly would be now.
