FO: Nanner Socks

(Family is safely back home, and our visit with them was great. I hope you and yours had a wonderful Easter weekend!)

The Nanners, they are done.

Finished Nanner Socks 1

The color in this photo is not nearly as good as the last progress shots, but it does show proof that the socks are done!

I did enjoy knitting with them, and would absolutely buy Maizy yarn again. It was periodically splitty, and there seemed to be things I was (sometimes) doing that caused the yarn to partially untwist (but I have no idea what I was doing), but neither of these things made me dislike the yarn. My only concern is to see how well it wears . . . if it doesn’t hold up to use as socks, however, I’d make fingerless mitts out of them, or scarves, or . . . There’s lots of things you can do with sock yarn besides socks.

I liked the sock pattern as well. I’m not fully sold on the heel, but I didn’t have any objections to it besides not liking the way I had to knit it since I was doing both socks at once on a long Magic Loop. (That was annoying.)

My one big regret about this pair of socks is that I didn’t plan the cuff better — once I was almost done with the ribbing, I decided I should have started the rib pattern as I finished the last row of scallops. So, the rib would carry down into the last half-repeat of the pattern. This may be hard to describe, but I know what I mean and I think it would have looked cool. If I knit this sock again (which I might, despite never yet having knit the same pattern twice) I will definitely have to remember to do that.

  1. Love them! I need to hook up my camera and post pictures of my finished Nanners. I have to admit – I took the top portion of the nanner and applied it to my basic toe-up recipe. Because I am apparently lazy and didn’t feel like learning a new pattern. But they turned out pretty well, if I do say so myself! They’re a little messed up, but what can you do? Learning to knit socks two at a time has a fairly steep learning curve!

  2. They look great! Heh, usually I have to knit a pattern once (or get partway into the ribbing and rip it back and change it) to see how I could better integrate pattern and ribbing.

  3. These are great! Really nice texture to that pattern!

  4. Wow… they look nice! We like the colour.

  5. Nicole- Never say never, you may knit them again. They’re really nice.

  6. You know, the socks are cool and all :) but damn that view out your window. It’s awesome ^^
