One of the suggestions for my Birthday Blog Bash (I asked for TT theme suggestions) was to list 13 books I wished I’d written, or 13 I was glad I hadn’t. This week we’ll go with the ones I wish I’d written. Next week I’ll do 13 I’m glad aren’t mine…
Thursday Thirteen: 13 Books I Wish I’d Written
1. Dragonflight (McCaffrey). This first in the Pern series is just a great story.
2. The Serpent’s Shadow (Lackey). I love the way the Snow White fairy tale hides in this novel.
3. The Smoke Thief (Abé). I just really liked this book, fun plot and hot romance.
4. Harry Potter (Rowling). Because really, what author doesn’t secretly (or not so secretly) hope to gamble big and win?
5. Sorcery and Cecelia: or the Enchanted Chocolate Pot (Wrede and Stevermer). This novel (co-written by two accomplished authors via letters) just looks like way too much fun.
6. Talyn (Lisle). As disturbing as it is in places, this is such a powerful novel. I would love to be able to do that.
7. Fahrenheit 451 (Bradbury). Another disturbing-yet-awesome book.
8. The Lord of the Rings (Tolkien). Not so much for the writing style, because I am very glad I don’t write like that, but more for the influence on countless young aspiring writers…
9. Little House on the Prarie (Wilder). Even though writing this one means going through all those experiences, which is not necessarily something I would want. Then again, that is why I would want to write this series… when I was young, I was half in love with Almanzo. =)
10. The Lark and the Wren (Lackey). I love the magic/music juxtaposition in this book.
11. Bitten (Armstrong). While not my favorite of the series, this one was a fresh voice in a genre that needed some fresh blood.
12. Poison Study (Snyder). More fresh blood, and a quite interesting premise. Though, I just realized I hadn’t finished the series.
13. Summers at Castle Auburn (Shinn). I. Love. This. Book. (And that’s all I need to say about that.)
