So, this is what I spent most of my weekend doing:
Knitting* while running the sound board for our current play, “Nunsense.” It’s highly amusing, if you haven’t seen it. Granted, people who are (or know lots about) religion will probably like it more than people who have no reference for the jokes, but you definitely don’t have to be Catholic to appreciate it.
It’s always fun to be involved in live theatre. Things change every night, and the audience reacts slightly differently than the one before. The actors also tend to throw lots of charisma at the audience, and running sound puts me at the back of the audience where I can pick up on that energy. Quite a rush. (Which is also an inside joke for those who know “Nunsense.”)
I think my favorite way to be involved in theatre is to run sound. I get to watch the show, and to have an actual impact on it, but I’m not on stage. (I have no desire to act. No stage fright, I can do it if I decided to, but why do something I don’t enjoy? Even when I took dance or piano lessons, the recitals were always my least favorite part.)
Anyway. The biggest downside is that upon arriving home after the show, it’s hard to wind down. So even when the show ends at a reasonable hour and I’m home by 11, I still stay up buzzing for longer than I should. Ah well. Trade-offs, I guess.
(*Yes, this is the Hot Cocoa #2. Which means I’m pretty close to finishing the pair! Yay! Think I might get them done before I go on my mini-vacation in 11 days?)
