Guilty Pleasures
May 13, 2008This is how I like to read. Curled up in bed (or on it) with a blankie. Of course, Suzy is not reading. She’s messing up my newly-made bed from a few days ago, after being unable to stop me from actually making the bed. Retaliation? Nah, my sweetie wouldn’t do that!
(Okay. You can stop laughing now.)
So, speaking of reading, what *have* I been reading lately? Well, not long ago (Saturday, I think it was) I started a book in the late afternoon, read off and on until that evening, and then proceeded to devour the rest of the book. I think I stayed up until 3am. (I was also awake for the purpose of doing other things, like chatting online. But I think I would have stayed up for the book regardless.)
Which book? Lynn Viehl’s NIGHT LOST. (Darkyn #4. And yes, I realize I am behind on my Darkyn reading. I am getting there. Really. I already own the next book, so I don’t have that excuse. Just a small matter of enough time…)
Now, this is a vampire book, though not your typical everyday vampire book. It is also a romance, though not your typical romance either. (Actually, when I read the first book in the series, IF ANGELS BURN, I was a bit disappointed that there wasn’t more on the romance side… however, the plot caught me up and made me forget that it was shelved with the romances. Now, I tend to think of them as “good books” rather than “vampire romances.”)
Anyway, the Darkyn series has a larger plot thread which carries through the whole series, but each individual book also has its own self-contained plot. I really like them. Night Lost has a twist at the end that I didn’t expect, and I’m going to need to re-read it to see if there are hints to it or not. Coming from such an accomplished author, I would expect that there are, just so well buried that I missed them entirely. (The speed at which I was devouring the book couldn’t have anything to do with that, could it?)
The Darkyn series is one of my guilty reading pleasures. What are yours?

I’m always up for a guilty pleasure read. Lately for me it’s been the Evanovich books.
*returns from library website after requesting Darkyn #1* Um… I think most of my guilty reading pleasures are pretty publicly shared on my blog!
You think those are good? Just wait til you get to Evermore. I’d say it’s the best so far, but now I’m waiting for Robin’s story.
Lol, it’s undoubtedly Sunny’s books. I’m not ashamed. Really, I’m not.
I think mine would be Stephen King. Love love love!
Hi Suzy!
Nicole- I have a thing for King as well.
Suzy- look at that face!
