Squirrel Scouts & Friday Fiver

Friday Fiver (I think this was last week’s but I liked it)

1. Do you like the thrill of a chase? At times. Depends on what I’m chasing and my odds of success.

2. What winds you up? In good ways or bad? I usually take this phrase to be a bad thing. So… hypocrites. Rude, and inconsiderate people. Inequality. (And we’ll stop there.)

3. Are you a loud talker? Only when I need to be.

4. What comes easy to you? Most of my school subjects have. Though… that was a while ago now. I don’t know how easy it would be now. …at this point, the thing that I know comes easiest for me is hope. I am truly an optimist.

5. What did you dream about recently? I’m gonna plead the fifth on this one. I don’t remember many of my night-time dreams, so I’d have to include daydreams, and they are never up for public discussion.

Junkie

February 27, 2008

There is a tragic flaw in our precious Constitution, and I don’t know what can be done to fix it. This is it: Only nut cases want to be president.

~*~

Oh. My. Goodness.

I was not in marching band, but I am like this. If a CD skips while I am walking anywhere, it totally throws me off. This may be because, even though I was never in band, I am and have always been a Marching Band Junkie. I would go to football games just to hear the band play. I would cheer for the band, yet have no idea what the score was. Halftime was the highlight of the game, no matter what team won.

I have even considered writing a novel titled “Confessions of a Marching Band Junkie,” even though I have no idea what the content of said novel would be. Just because I liked the name.

Anyway. I don’t know what I had been going to post today. (Technically tomorrow, since I am writing this Tuesday night and will be putting the timestamp in the future.) But seeing this comic totally derailed any blog plans I had.

Hope you enjoyed the tangent as much as I did.

Knitting Finally Returns

February 26, 2008

So… knitting finally returns to the blog. Here is a pair of socks (the Hot Cocoa socks, which are the Yarn Harlot’s Earl Grey socks in brown) that have appeared on the blog before, and then vanished because they were going to be a present for someone who reads these posts. Now that the present has been given, the socks can reappear.

Hot Cocoa #1 Nearly Done
(The sock is modeled on my foot, which is smaller than the one it’s being made for. And this is still sock #1… the shame!)

I’m still enjoying this knit and the yarn and the needles, but it does seem that these are so much smaller needles than the other dpns I own. I mean, they’re not *that* much smaller… but these socks are taking ages to knit. Maybe it’s just the amount of time I can devote to them.

Hot Cocoa Sock Detail
(Mmmm… they’re also semi-grainy camera phone pics. Sorry about that.)

Anyway. That’s it for today, but it’s nice to be back to blogging – and knitting – on a regular basis.

Hooker Reinforcement

February 25, 2008

The Yarn Harlot had a good post today on hooking. (aka crochet, you silly people) I want to remember this technique for reinforcing loose knitting sections, and so am going to link to it here…

I will have pictures soon of my current WIPs, because I have neglected that. Also, for this week’s TT I think I will do an Around the Blog, if for no other reason than to prove that yes, I have been reading my friends’ posts (since I have been too busy lately to do much commenting). And lastly, I will try to get in a picture of Suzy so that you don’t all revolt because the blog has been kittyless for too long.

Have a good week!

I will be posting more soon. But don’t worry, the show’s opening went very well, and I’m recovering from being tired and stressed and overworked. All is good in my world.

Thursday 13 #29 ~ Late Dates

February 21, 2008

Okay, since I forgot my love-themed TT last week, we’re going to do one this week instead. (However, due to lack of brainpower today, there won’t be much in the way of commentary…)

Thirteen Favorite Places to Go on a Date
  1. the beach
  2. the movies
  3. DISNEYLAND!!!!
  4. camping
  5. the park: for a picnic
  6. the park: for a bike ride
  7. a coffee shop, preferable a cute non-chain one
  8. cute downtowns (like Solvang or San Juan Bautista) for window shopping and walking hand in hand
  9. glitzy cities (San Francisco being one obvious semi-local one) for an evening of… whatever – especially in the holiday season
  10. in the spring or summer – a sidewalk cafe with outdoor seating for lunch
  11. his place for cuddling and a movie
  12. a trail ride (as in, on horses)
  13. driving along the coast with no particular destination in mind, stopping wherever suits our fancy

Happy Thursday!
(And starting soon I should have some good pics of “Little Shop,” along with more time for blogging/writing/knitting… YAY!)

Thursday 13 #28 ~ Crafting Craziness

February 14, 2008

Just a quick Thursday Thirteen today, again with no linkies or pretty artwork. Sadly, all I have the energy for is the list itself…

Thirteen Crafts I Enjoy

1. Knitting. (Obviously.)

2. Crocheting. (Also probably apparent.)

3. Cross Stitch. (Even though I haven’t done much of it lately.)

4. Scrapbooking. (Never seem to have enough time to do as much of this as I want…)

5. Painting. (I paint D&D figures. Again – when I have time.)

6. Spinning. (Say it with me now: “… when I have time.”)

7. Video editing. (If you don’t think of this as an art/craft, you have never tried to splice audio tracks.)

8. Sewing. (I still have a skirt that hasn’t been finished. Not to mention the very first project I started, a cool plaid vest, which still needs to be sewn up.)

9. Bobbin lace. (Not many people know about this anymore, and fewer know how to do it. But it’s fun.)

10. Beading. (Making jewelry especially, though I had fun for a while with beaded flowers. I’d like to get back to that, when I have the time.)

11. Card making. (This is one that I actually still do a fair amount of, due to it taking less time than scrapbooking. Also, holidays and birthdays keep coming, and so cards are in constant demand.)

12. Writing. (Okay, this one’s iffy on the definition. But it’s a craft… so there.)

13. Quilting. (This one is another stretch, since it’s really just a form of sewing. However, it’s its own thing, when you really look at it. But… it’s still a stretch, since I’ve only done potholders. Very small, and don’t really count as quilts. I don’t care. I’m counting it anyway.)

Happy Thursday, and happy Valentine’s day everyone!*

* Right, so I just now realized that I should have done a love-themed TT. Maybe next week I’ll do a love-theme instead, just to be different.

How I Spent My Weekend

February 11, 2008

Here is a quick pictorial overview of what I spent my weekend doing. I was out of the house and busy with theatre stuff from 9am – 9pm on Saturday, and then from 1pm – 11pm on Sunday. And then I’ll be there again every night this week… Actually, I might as well just pull out a sleeping bag and crash at the playhouse until we open. It would save drive time.
